I am one of those people.
For the past four and a half years, it's been easier for me to eat healthy and keep the weight within a good range than ever before. I wish I could share whatever equipoise (on the other side of self-control) has led to this blissful liberation from shame and obesity.
What I can do is to hold the space and be present for others who want to share their journey with me. I am going to follow someone else I love who has started her blog using the guidelines developed by Geneen Roth. I commit to following these guidelines myself in solidarity with her while she is on this journey.
Here are the eating guidelines:
- Eat when you are hungry
- Eat sitting down in a calm environment. This does not include the car.
- Eat without distractions. Distractions include radio, television, newspapers, books, intense or anxiety-producing conversations or music.
- Eat what your body wants
- Eat until you are satisfied
- Eat (with the intention of being) in full view of others.
- Eat with enjoyment, gusto and pleasure.
My beloved friend is also taking Roth's online retreat program. I will join her in that too, just because.
That is some solid support, Sister! The guidelines are good ones, no matter what. Thanks for all you do and stand for. Love.
